Have you ever felt you were on a journey but not sure of the destination? Well, that is what happened to us concerning “House of Joe”. We weren’t looking to buy a coffee house or any other house for that matter. We had been praying for over a year about ways to sustain charities and missions we supported as a family. Have to tell ya, we were thinking more about a home based business than we were a store front. Then along came an opportunity… a business, that peaked our curiosity, was for sale. It combined our love for people and coffee. We knew we couldn’t turn back. We shared our vision with our dear friends, Buddy and Patty Foster. They climbed aboard and together we moved forward.
We want a business that will be socially responsible, eco-friendly, and one that will better lives. What does that look like? It looks like a couple of families trying to create a business that isn’t all about the money! After working in “corporate jobs” for years it is time to focus on expanding and bettering our footprint in the world around us. Throw into the mix some timely conversations and divine guidance, BOOM: proud new owners at “House of Joe”!
Welcome aboard the “House of Joe” express. The train left the station on, April 1, 2011. Where’s it headed? Not sure. How’s it going to act enroute? Not sure. But we know we are headed in the right direction and we trust the conductor.
Our beans are fresh roasted, never more than 7 days old. Why is this important? Coffee beans are a fruit. Just like any fruit, they rot and can taste bitter. They can be stored green, for approximately 1 year. After a year, roasters flavor the beans and sell them to consumers as gourmet coffee. Once beans are roasted, they should be used within 14 days. And after they are ground, well… they need to be brewed immediately.
Did you know that the ground coffee you buy in stores and most large chains are not fresh? The canned grounds must be aired out and made stale in order to can them. Why you ask? Because fresh roasted beans let off a gas, that would burst the can. Stale beans and grounds can create uncomfortable gastro problems. Most people that drink coffee brewed from fresh roasted beans, have no ills and are spoiled for life due to the superior taste of the coffee. And as, Paul Havey, would tell us, “Now you know the rest of the story!”
